Why this exists

Finding out whether you can fish somewhere is unreasonably hard. The information exists — on club websites, on signs at the water, in the heads of people who have fished there for thirty years — but it is scattered, often out of date, and almost never on a map.

CanI.fish puts that information in one place, with the date it was last checked and the evidence behind it. Always check local permissions before you fish.

Waters, not pins

Every water is drawn as a stretch with a start and an end, or as the outline of a lake, rather than as a dot on a map. Roughly where a club’s water begins and ends is far more useful than a pin in the middle of it.

These boundaries are estimates, not surveyed lines. They are drawn from club descriptions, signs at the water, published maps and local knowledge. The exact point where one water’s permission ends and the next begins is often not marked on the ground at all, and it can move — a club gains a field, a stretch changes hands, a lease ends.

Check locally before you fish: with the club, with the signs at the bank, or with the bailiff.
