How verification works

In short

- Green means we found the evidence and put it on the page, with a date, so you can judge it yourself. - Amber means somebody told us and nobody here has checked it. - The blue count is anglers, and it is never added to the green. No number of anglers makes a water checked.

Every water’s page carries a thumbs up and a thumbs down.

Thumbs up means you went, and what you found matched what the page said. We keep a tally. It appears at the top of the water as a blue “Anglers confirmed” chip beside our own badge -- never combined with it -- and again beside the thumbs themselves, as “3 anglers said this matched”.

Thumbs down asks you what was wrong. That is the useful half: a count of people who disagree tells us nothing we can act on, but “the club changed hands in April” tells us exactly what to check.

It is counted once per water per person, using a one-way hash of your IP address. We never store the address itself.

It is a popularity signal, not evidence. Ten anglers can all be repeating the same out-of-date thing they read in the same place. A high count means the page is plausible to people who have been there. It does not mean it is true, and it does not mean it is still true. It is shown separately from our own check below, and the two are never added together.

Means a person here found specific evidence — a club’s own website, signage photographed at the water, a phone call to the controlling body — and recorded that evidence as a source on the page, with a date.

It does not mean we visited. It does not mean it is still true today. It means that on the date shown, we found something specific that said so, and you can see exactly what it was.

Reported

The honest default, and the badge most entries carry. Somebody told us; nobody here has checked it.

An unchecked entry may be accurate, or it may be information somebody has misremembered. The badge remains until the entry is verified. Entries are shown as unchecked rather than presented as checked.

Checked in person

Somebody here went and looked, and found nothing citable to record -- no club website, a sign that was no longer there, a phone that was not answered.

It is a real check and it is not the green badge, because the green badge means there is evidence on the page you can look at for yourself. Treat it as a report by somebody who has been, rather than as a fact with a citation behind it.

Disputed

We have found conflicting information and have not been able to resolve it.
